The rank you begin with on the game is Sheriff, but if you shoot any innocents or fellow lawmen, you will either remain at that rank or be demoted to Deputy or even Posse. If you manage to complete each stage without shooting any innocents, you will be promoted to Deputy Marshal. Your gun can fire up to six bullets at a time. To reload you gun, you must aim it away from the screen and squeeze the trigger. On each stage, there are special items that you can shoot for better weaponry, such as double rigs, rifles, 50 caliber sharps, shotguns, gatlings guns, and cannons. If you get shot, however, you will return to your regular gun. You must destroy the enemies at the end of each stage in order to continue.
